A scoring system for cerebrospinal fluid leak in spontaneous intracranial hypotension

  • A simple, 9-point scoring system integrating six MRI findings (3 qualitative and 3 quantitative signs) predicts with high diagnostic accuracy the probability of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak in people with spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH).

Why this matters

  • There is currently no standardized classification system integrating MRI findings to assess the likelihood of an underlying CSF leak in SIH.

  • Application of this score might obviate the need for invasive tests in some people with SIH and help to standardize diagnostic and therapeutic approaches between specialists.
