The availability of specialist epilepsy care has improved substantially in the US from 2012 to 2019 with the implementation of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) accreditation system.
Why this matters
Drug-resistant epilepsy is a complex condition and patients may benefit from specialized treatment centers and in the US, most patients are treated in NAEC-accredited epilepsy centers.
Since 2012, the NAEC has collected annual data from accredited centers on several parameters related to epilepsy care. This data can be used to investigate epilepsy center services over time.
