Association between hippocampal atrophy and memory deficits in temporal lobe epilepsy

  • Patterns of hippocampal atrophy visualized via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can help to determine risk of memory deficits before and after epilepsy surgery in people with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).

Why this matters

These data could help to identify people with TLE who are more likely to suffer memory deficits post-surgery, and in doing so support surgical planning and neuropsychological counselling.
