The dominant and recessive model of Interleukin 1 Receptor Type 2 (IL1R2 rs34043159) was found to be associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in a southern Chinese population.
Why this matters
AD is a common neurodegenerative disorder which can be classified as familial or sporadic. Immunological and genetic factors play a role in the pathogenesis of AD. Recently a new gene, IL1R2, was reported to be associated with Parkinson’s disease among individuals in southern China. However, the association between IL1R2 and AD is unclear. The results of the study will provide a better understanding between inflammation and AD.
