Cardiac innervation scintigraphy as a diagnostic tool in dementia

  • Cardiac I-123-metaiodobenzylguanidine sympathetic innervation imaging (mIBG) may be used to diagnose mild-cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies (MCI-LB) with a high degree of accuracy.

Why this matters

  • mIBG is an established biomarker of dementia with Lewy Body dementia but is less established in MCI-LB.

  • Biomarkers that accurately diagnose early-stage dementias are urgently needed to enable earlier intervention and improve outcomes for patients.
