Cognitive impairment in MS: 5 distinct phenotypes identified

Five distinct cognitive phenotypes have been identified in patients with multiple sclerosis, which may lead to more individualized treatment approaches, researchers say.

“Cognitive impairment is a common and disabling feature of MS, but a precise characterization of cognitive phenotypes in MS patients is lacking,” said Dr Ermelinda De Meo of the San Raffaele, Vita-Salute University in Milan, Italy.

“Our aim was to go beyond the traditional “preserved/impaired” classification dichotomy, setting the stage for future research and tailored management approaches.”
