Developing a mouse model of prodromal Parkinson’s disease


  • A bacterial artificial chromosome transgenic mouse was engineered to model prodromal Parkinson’s disease (PD), characterized by α-synuclein pathology, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder, and hyposmia.

Why this matters

    This new mouse model which exhibits early non-motor symptoms of PD, may be helpful to investigate the initiation and progression of PD, and assist in development of disease modifying therapeutics.
