Diagnostic criteria evaluation of post-dural puncture headache

  • The overall risk for post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) may be related to volume of cerebrospinal fluid (V) in instances of high-volume removal

Why this matters

  • The International Classification of Headache Diagnoses, 3rd Edition (ICHD-3) identifies documented intracranial hypotension as a mandatory diagnostic criteria for PDPH.

  • However, PDPH is a heterogenous diagnosis and revision should be made of the diagnostic criteria to include the possibility of intermediate and delayed PDPH subtypes.
