Disability associated with spinal deformities not always evident from quality of life measures

  • Patients with both cervical deformity (CD) and thoracolumbar deformity (TLD) may be significantly more disabled and have more severe neurological impairments than those with isolated CD or TLD despite similar quality-of-life questionnaire scores assessed prior to primary surgical intervention.

Why this matters

  • The prioritization of surgical interventions in patients with combined cervical and thoracolumbar spinal deformities is unclear.
