The ABO gene may be associated with cerebral venous thrombosis, with an increased risk in people with an AB blood group.
Why this matters
Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is an uncommon form of stroke, occurring more commonly in young people.
Although numerous risk factors have been reported for CVT, it has been hypothesized that genetic factors also contribute to CVT.
Currently the genetic etiology of CVT is not well understood.
