Hypothalamic activation is a potential marker for the premonitory phase of migraine

  • People with migraine exhibit significant hypothalamic activation in the two days before headache onset.

Why this matters

The unpredictable nature of migraine attacks makes it difficult to identify biomarkers during the premonitory phase. This is the first study to investigate a group of people with migraine daily over a month to examine the neuronal mechanisms underlying spontaneous migraine attacks.
