Identification of neurotransmitter receptor changes in Alzheimer’s disease through personalized brain models

  • A brain model integrating several neurotransmitter receptors and multimodal neuroimaging clinical data provides insight into the neuropathology of neurodegenerative progression in Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

Why this matters

  • Neurotransmitter receptors may have a role in mechanistic pathways of aging and in neurodegenerative cascades, but neurotransmitter receptor imaging is difficult due to cost and technology limitations.

  • The proposed model can identify patient-specific brain alterations and therapeutic needs, having implications for the design of individually tailored treatment regimens.
