People with multiple sclerosis have altered gut and systemic microbiota and dysfunctional immune homeostasis.
Why this matters
There is increasing evidence that dysfunctional gut and systemic microbiota could influence immune responses and progression of multiple sclerosis. This novel study reveals unique immunoglobulin responses in people with multiple sclerosis which could represent a potential antigenic therapeutic target. The findings also suggest that altering microbiota in people with multiple sclerosis may be a therapeutic option which can be easily implemented in clinical practice.
