Investigating the central vein sign as a diagnostic biomarker in multiple sclerosis

  • The presence of three or more central vein lesions and a 35% central vein sign proportion threshold show high specificity for distinguishing multiple sclerosis (MS) from conditions that mimic MS on 3 Telsa (T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Why this matters

Clinically useful biomarkers to differentiate MS from MS mimics are needed; this study indicates that central vein sign-based criteria have the potential to support accurate diagnosis of MS in clinical practice.
