Obesity and dieting in individuals with multiple sclerosis

  • Though there is evidence that obesity can worsen prognosis in multiple sclerosis (MS), individuals with MS were no more likely to adopt specific diets than the control population.

Why this matters

Obesity is associated with a higher risk of relapse and co-morbidities as well as increased disease progression in people with MS. This study provides evidence that improved nutritional education is needed to help individuals with MS make healthy changes in their diet for better nutrition and weight loss purposes.
