Objective and subjective stress are linked to allostatic load

  • Both subjective and objective stresses are significantly associated with allostatic load (AL), and this association is unaffected by personality traits.

Why this matters

This study is the first to compare the associations of objective and subjective measures of stress with AL in the context of Big Five personality traits. The findings suggest that stress–AL associations may differ depending on the balance between biomarkers characterized by acute versus chronic stress response.
