PD patients report decline in physical activity and worsening symptoms during lockdown

The detrimental impact of COVID-19 lockdown for many patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) has been highlighted by new findings presented at the MDS 2021 virtual congress.

Physical activity is known to be associated with beneficial effects on symptoms in PD, possibly through effects on dopaminergic transmission, while sedentary behavior has been related to a decreased quality of life.
