Takeaway
People with monocular blindness (MB) have abnormal gray matter volume (GMV) and white matter volume (WMV) involvement in regional brain changes, and reduction of GMV is associated with the duration of blindness.
Why this matters
This is the first study to use voxel‐based morphometry (VBM) to study changes in brain volume of people with MB. The findings indicate potential neuropathological mechanisms of visual loss in this population and changes in these brain activities could represent valuable clinical markers.
