Persistent neurological symptoms as a result of COVID-19


  • SARS-CoV-2 infection can cause posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) and result in persistent neurological symptoms.

Why this matters

  • Accumulating data have shown that COVID-19 can result in neurological symptoms, ranging from mild anosmia and/or dysgeusia, to severe complications including encephalopathy and stroke.

  • The long-term neurological consequences of SARS-CoV-2 infection are unknown.
