Prediction model identifies early dementia patients at risk of rapid cognitive decline

Specialists at AOCN 2021 reported details of a new prediction model that could help identify patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) at high risk of rapid cognitive decline.

The clinical manifestations and progression of cognitive function vary between patients with MCI and AD. Although wide variations exist between patients, being able to predict the disease course and progression would be important for clinicians and patients’ families.

Dr Yung-Shuan Lin from the Neurological Institute at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan, presented the results of a study to develop a prediction model to identify patients with Alzheimer disease (AD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who are at higher risk of rapid cognitive decline.
