Relationship between ventricular arrythmias and dementia in the ARIC study
The presence of nonsustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT), and higher burden of NSVT and premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), were independently associated with dementia in elderly black patients, even after adjustment for cardiovascular (CV) risk factors.
Why this matters
Little is known about the association between ventricular arrythmias and dementia, and evidence regarding differences in dementia by race is incomplete. Understanding these relationships will improve diagnostic and treatment outcomes.
