Response of fetal eyes to visual light stimuli

  • A fetus may have the capacity to become an active participant in the development of their visual system.

Why this matters

There is limited understanding of how human fetuses develop their visual systems or how they engage with prenatal stimuli. It has been proposed that fetal eye movement may be less reflexive or random and more likely learned from the environment. The results of this study provide more evidence towards the developmental theories on the visual capacity of a neonate.
