Risk of suicide in people diagnosed with brain cancers

  • Patients diagnosed with brain cancers showed an increased risk of suicides within their first year of diagnosis compared with the general US population.

Why this matters

  • In 2019, it was estimated that there would be ~24,000 incidences and ~18,000 deaths of brain tumors in the US.

  • In a previous study by the same group of authors, it was found that there was a significantly increased risk of suicide in people within the first year of being diagnosed with cancer compared with the general population.
