Self-reported participation restrictions in veterans with traumatic brain injury

Takeaway

  • Social contact, leisure and initiation were the greatest self-reported restrictions in veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI); this was not significantly different between males and females.

Why this matters

Previous studies have found that TBI has negative effects on social functioning and community reintegration; however, there is little research comparing the differences in the effects of TBI between males and females. Understanding the gender differences in restrictions in individuals with TBI is necessary for successful community reintegration.
