Serial position scores as markers of hippocampal-related neuropathological outcomes

  • Primacy scores may serve as markers of Alzheimer’s dementia (AD) and hippocampal-related neuropathologies and their comorbidities, and they provide early differentiation between patients with no impairment and those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Why this matters

Serial position effects in verbal memory tests have been investigated as cognitive markers of neuropathologies that result in degradation of integrity in memory systems; serial position effects as markers of AD neuropathologies may aid in earlier diagnosis and treatment.
