Takeaway
Elderly patients with large peritumoral brain oedema (PTBE) and poor pre-operative performance status may benefit the most from surgery.
Why this matters
Data on the influence of PTBE on patients’ outcome are limited, especially in the elderly population, which is considered to be more prone to treatment-related morbidity after surgery.
The patient-centered decision support tool developed in this study may help to identify patients with the highest potential for post-operative improvement and to predict the outcome.
