Symptomatic peritumoral edema is associated with surgical outcome in elderly patients

  • Elderly patients with large peritumoral brain oedema (PTBE) and poor pre-operative performance status may benefit the most from surgery.

Why this matters

  • Data on the influence of PTBE on patients’ outcome are limited, especially in the elderly population, which is considered to be more prone to treatment-related morbidity after surgery.

  • The patient-centered decision support tool developed in this study may help to identify patients with the highest potential for post-operative improvement and to predict the outcome.
