Thalamic damage as a potential biomarker for pediatric multiple sclerosis

  • Microstructural changes that may serve as biomarkers for reduced thalamic volume in pediatric individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) include retrograde degeneration from white matter lesions and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-mediated damage.

Why this matters

Thalamic volume reduction has been associated with pediatric MS; however, the underlying physiology has not been investigated.
