The needs of Parkinson’s disease patients during a COVID-19 pandemic lockdown

  • The process of how perceptions and experience shape the reality and meaning of living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) during the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic are highlighted.

Why this matters

  • Compromised healthcare, lockdown restrictions and associated stress due to the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly impacted people living with PD globally; as such, online tools have been developed to qualitatively explore the feelings and unmet needs of this cohort.

  • Insight into the feelings and perceptions of PD patients during initial stages of the pandemic is provided, consequently highlighting the need for clinicians to share information as and when it becomes available to provide as much reassurance as possible.
