The oxygen slow uptake component precedes neuromuscular changes associated with fatigue

  • In healthy men doing heavy exercise, the oxygen uptake slow component (SCV) emerged prior to neuromuscular changes such as reduced torque, indicating that fatigue arising from these changes is not essential to elicit the SCV.

Why this matters

These results elucidate the development of the SCV and the putative role of fatigue, with implications for performance in sport and exercise and with possible relevance to our understanding of fatigue in neuromuscular disorders.
