Transcranial doppler ultrasonography and the frontal bone window in ICU patients

  • The frontal bone window (FBW) was able to insonate the anterior cerebral artery (ACA) in 45% of patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) for brain injury, and could improve the detection of ACA vasospasms.

Why this matters

The temporal bone window (TBW) often fails to insonate the ACA but the FBW has never been evaluated in ICUs; the FBW was able to insonate the ACA in 45% of patients and could improve clinical detection of cerebral vasospasms.
