Prof. Tissa Wijeratne of Western Health in Melbourne, Australia, provided an update on current and emerging therapies for cluster headache (CH) as part of the Asian Regional Conference of Headache (ARCH), held as part of AOCN 2021.
Cluster headache affects 1 in every 1,000 people, making it one of the most common types of trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia (TAC). It can be distinguished from other forms of TAC by the presence of restlessness, which occurs in about 90% of patients with CH (although restlessness can occur in a minority of patients with other TACs), and being triggered by alcohol, which is “almost exclusive to CH,” Prof. Wijeratne noted.
